Buzz Aldrin

Apollo Astronaut & Visionary Explorer

Dr. Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin is an American astronaut, engineer, and visionary whose footsteps on the Moon forever changed humanity’s view of what is possible. Born in 1930 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Aldrin graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a degree in mechanical engineering and went on to earn a Doctor of Science in Astronautics from MIT — becoming one of the first astronauts to hold a doctoral degree.

In 1969, as the Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo 11, Buzz Aldrin became the second human to walk on the Moon, following Commander Neil Armstrong. His calm precision and deep understanding of orbital mechanics helped make the historic first lunar landing a success — a moment watched by over half a billion people around the world.

Following Apollo 11, Aldrin dedicated his life to promoting space exploration, STEM education, and human expansion into the cosmos. He developed pioneering concepts for Mars cycler orbits and continues to advocate for sustainable exploration beyond Earth’s orbit. Through the Buzz Aldrin Space Institute and his public outreach, he inspires new generations to look upward — and to dream beyond boundaries.

Buzz Aldrin’s life stands as a testament to courage, collaboration, and the humanspirit of exploration. His legacy continues to ignite the imagination of explorers worldwide, reminding us that when we reach for the stars, we elevate all of humankind.

Aldrin went beyond his life as an astronaut to become a consultant in space flight technology, an author, and a lecturer. He was even the inspiration for Disney's  Buzz Lightyear. His public outreach work crossed paths with many organizations and people, including Scott Roberts who volunteered to provide Moon gazing experiences at some of Buzz Aldrin's social events.

“Exploration is wired into our brains. If we can see the horizon, we want to know what’s beyond.”
