Nebula Filters

Nebula filters selectively pass the specific wavelengths of light emitted by glowing gas clouds while blocking much of the background skyglow from artificial lights. The result is higher contrast on emission nebulae such as the Orion Nebula, the Lagoon Nebula and the Veil Nebula, even from suburban skies affected by light pollution.

This collection includes broadband CLS filters for general light pollution reduction, UHC-style filters and narrowband filters such as O-III, H-Beta, H-Alpha and S-II for high-contrast visual observing and astrophotography. Filters are available in 1.25-inch and 2-inch sizes to thread onto most eyepieces, diagonals and imaging trains. Whether you are observing faint planetary nebulae visually or capturing narrowband images with a dedicated astronomy camera, the right nebula filter can reveal structure and detail that would otherwise be lost in the sky background.

Choosing the right nebula filter depends on your goals. Broadband light pollution filters offer a gentle improvement across many object types, UHC-style filters provide stronger contrast on most emission nebulae, and O-III filters excel on planetary nebulae and supernova remnants. Narrowband H-Alpha, O-III and S-II filters are the foundation of 'Hubble palette' astrophotography with monochrome cameras. Note that nebula filters do not improve views of galaxies or star clusters, which emit broadband light, but they can transform your views of the brightest and most beautiful nebulae.
