AR Doublet Series

A Doublet, commonly called an achromatic lens or achromat is a lens that is designed to limit the effects of chromatic and spherical aberration. Achromatic lenses are corrected to bring two wavelengths into focus in the same plane.

AR Series Achromatic Doublet Refractors

Explore Scientific AR Series refractors are air-spaced achromatic doublet telescopes that deliver large apertures at an accessible price. Using a classic crown-and-flint lens design, the AR102, AR127 and AR152 offer bright, high-contrast views with the convenience, durability and low maintenance that make refracting telescopes so popular.

Large-aperture achromatic refractors excel at wide-field observing, sweeping the Milky Way, framing large open clusters and revealing bright nebulae, while also providing satisfying views of the Moon and planets. Their sealed tubes stay clean, require no collimation and cool down quickly, so they are ready to observe in minutes. The AR152, a 6-inch refractor, is especially loved at outreach events and star parties for its bright, crisp images and impressive presence.

As with all achromatic refractors, you may notice some color fringing around very bright objects at high magnification; a minus-violet or yellow filter can reduce this for planetary observing. AR Series telescopes pair well with sturdy alt-azimuth or equatorial mounts, 2-inch star diagonals and wide-field eyepieces. For observers who want big-aperture refractor views without the cost of an apochromat, the AR Series offers exceptional value.
