STARMUS Star Party Data from Astronomy Magazine and Explore Scientific

Found as the middle “star” in the handle of the Big Dipper, or Plough (Ursa Major), is the double star consisting of Alcor and Mizar. Not only can sharp-eyed viewers spot these two stars as a double with their eyes alone, but Alcor, the fainter star, is itself a binary consisting of two suns. You need a telescope to split the faint star into two.
