Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) was founded by Mike Simmons and Anousheh Ansari. With their vision of "One Sky" shared by all, the organization is dedicated to spreading astronomy globally from developed countries to create sustainable programs in astronomy outreach to developing countries. The results have been nothing short of astounding.

Featured Activities

AWB is community focused and has programs co-developed with its partner organizations to increase scientific literacy in the countries and communities they serve. AWB's Global Astronomy Month brings a focus to the group's aim is to create "goodwill and understanding" across all boundaries through the sharing of astronomy.

Public Outreach

One of AWB's hallmark events was 100 Hours of Astronomy (100HA). This was is a worldwide astronomy event that ran 2–5 April 2009 and was part of the scheduled global activities of the International Year of Astronomy 2009. The main goal of 100HA was to have as many people throughout the world as possible looking through a telescope just as Galileo did for the first time 400 years ago. Millions of people were involved. The event included special webcasts, students and teachers activities, a schedule of events at science centers, planetariums and science museums as well as 24 hours of sidewalk astronomy, which allowed the opportunity for public observing sessions to as many people as possible.
