Solar Eclipse Sun Catcher

On August 21st, the United States will experience its first total solar eclipse since February 26, 1979. During this event, all of the continental United States will experience at least a significant partial solar eclipse. Those fortunate enough to live along or travel to the narrow track of totality will experience up to 2 minutes and 40 seconds under the shadow. No matter how you decide to safely view the eclipse, make sure to pick up your gear in advance. To learn more about observing and documenting this epic event, check out our Free Solar Eclipse Primer. Sun Catcher Solar Filters & Eclipse Glasses

Observing the Sun safely requires proper solar filtration. Never look at the Sun through a telescope, binoculars or with the naked eye without a certified solar filter. Explore Scientific's Sun Catcher line includes white-light solar filters and eclipse glasses designed for safe solar viewing.

Sun Catcher solar filters fit over the front of telescopes to safely reveal sunspots, granulation and the progress of solar eclipses and planetary transits. Sun Catcher solar eclipse glasses are rated ISO 12312-2 for direct solar viewing and are available in single packs and bulk assortments for families, schools, clubs and eclipse events. Whether you are preparing for the next solar eclipse or enjoying daily sunspot observing, Sun Catcher products help you explore our nearest star safely.

Before each use, inspect solar filters and eclipse glasses for scratches, holes or damage, and discard any that are compromised. Supervise children during solar viewing. For telescopes, the solar filter must cover the full front aperture, and finder scopes should be capped or removed. With proper equipment and care, solar observing and eclipse viewing are safe, memorable experiences for the whole family.
