Intermediate Telescopes

Intermediate telescopes are designed for stargazers who have learned the basics and are ready to see more. Explore Scientific's intermediate collection features larger-aperture refractors, Newtonian reflectors, Dobsonian telescopes, Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes and GoTo telescope packages that deliver brighter images, finer planetary detail and access to thousands of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters beyond the reach of a first telescope.

Stepping up in aperture is the single biggest upgrade most observers make. A larger lens or mirror gathers more light, revealing the spiral structure of bright galaxies, the delicate shells of planetary nebulae and the individual stars of globular clusters. Many intermediate telescopes also feature smoother dual-speed focusers, sturdier mounts and the ability to accept 2-inch wide-field eyepieces, making observing sessions more comfortable and productive.

Intermediate telescopes are also a great entry point into astrophotography. Pairing a quality refractor with a tracking equatorial mount opens the door to imaging the Moon, planets and bright deep-sky objects. Whether you want to dive deeper into visual astronomy or begin capturing the night sky, an intermediate telescope from Explore Scientific offers a meaningful leap in performance while remaining approachable and easy to set up.
